Keller Williams Family Reunion 2017 Survival Guide

1/24/2017

Picture
At Family Reunion, Keller Williams associates gather with thousands of top agents and leaders for four power-packed days of networking and training. This is your opportunity to reenergize and take your business to the next level; learn from the best in the business, attend powerful sessions and immerse yourself in KW culture.

24 Hour Opportunity

If you've never been to Family Reunion before, you are in for a treat!  This year 70 hours of education and training are packed into 4 days - for you to make the most of.

From new agents to the most experienced, there is no shortage of valuable education.  From technology to the brass tacks of your business you can find what's right for you.
Family Reunion can be broken down into two different types of events; group sessions and breakout sessions.  The group sessions are for everyone and are high energy and highly informative.  This years group sessions include Gary Keller's Keynote, the Vision Speech, the State of Your Company, and the Inspirational Brunch.  Scattered amongst the group sessions are the breakout sessions, and this year there are 8 breakout session time slots.  During each breakout time slot there are between 20-28 available classes where you pick what you want to learn.  Think of it as a Choose Your Own Adventure!
For the full list of breakout click here.

Tips for Family Reunion

What is your ONE Thing?
What is the ONE Thing that you want to learn or take away from Family Reunion this year?
Focus on this and put it in the form of a question.  Is it "How to get more listings", or "How to increase my lead conversion ratio", or "How to own my farm" - then put it in question form - "What do I need to do to successfully farm?".  Now ask that question to everyone you cross paths with at Family Reunion.  Ask them how they farm or what they did to successfully farm an area and notice how many of the answers align and are fundamentally similar.

Plan your breakout sessions around your ONE Thing to maximize your education.
The more you focus on one topic the more you will learn and retain regarding it.  If you try to learn a little bit about everything out there, you will will come back with some notes, but no real retained information.
Keep an Open Mindset
Be humble and admit that you don't know everything.
Start the event out right and be open and willing to try out new things in your business.  Be open to look into different ways to do things or different systems for your business.  This is how you will learn the most - you can't outgrow Family Reunion because there is no magic button or tool that works for everyone.  Every moment is a learning opportunity.
Carpe diem.
Engage
Actively participate in the Q&A sessions in the breakouts.
Take notes, record audio - do whatever works for you...do it, as Shia LeBouf would say.  Introduce yourself to others in your breakout sessions and sit with people from other areas at lunch.  Where else would you get opportunities like these?
Picture
Breakouts
There are 207 breakout sessions this year!
During each of the 8 time slots there are between 20-28 different breakout sessions offered.  That is a lot.  But, if you focus on your ONE Thing, it will make it a lot easier to decide which ones are right for you.  Check out the full list of breakouts and make a short list of the ones that interest you first, and it's okay to pick up to 3 from each time slot.  In fact, I would recommend that you find at least 2 breakouts for each time slot; a primary choice and a secondary choice.  This way in the event that your primary choice is full, or you are running behind and won't make all the way across the convention center in time, you have a backup session already selected so you don't waste 10 minutes flipping through the booklet trying to select another breakout.  Also, many of the breakouts are repeated so if you can't decide between two sessions, look to see if either of them are repeated at another time.

Divide & Conquer
Team up with someone else & plan your breakouts together.  Go to the ones that interest you the most and they can go to the ones that interest them the most, but don't go to the same ones! Then you can share notes later.
Networking - Who Do You Want to Connect With?
Is there someone you want to connect with or meet up with?
Contact them today to try to schedule a time for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or drinks to connect.  Do it quick as schedules fill fast at Family Reunion.  With over 12,000 people in town for Family Reunion, this is a great time to connect with people!

Pack your business cards, then grab another stack and pack that too!
This is an excellent time to network with others and build your referral network, its not about how many cards you can give out, its about how many cards you can collect!
Exhibit Hall
This is where the vendors live, at least for 5 days a year.
All the big vendors will be here, from technology to books, to marketing materials, to apparel.  You can find it all here, visit all of the vendors to get free stuff and have them scan your badge to get entered in many drawings - including a free BMW! (Which will be given away on Sunday, February 12th)

Want free stuff? Get there early!
If you're headed to Family Reunion for free stuff, you better get to the Exhibit Hall early.  Come on Sunday or Monday and do a quick walk to see how much you can collect.  Then you can scope out the place to see what vendors you want to come back and visit with later.  If you are looking to talk with the vendors, mornings are best because it's typically much quieter in the hall in the morning.

Budget Ahead.
Set your budget ahead of time so you don't get shiny object syndrome and end up with buyer's remorse.  Figure out what you need, and plan accordingly.  Many vendors will offer Family Reunion pricing, but often the pricing doesn't end on the last day of Family Reunion, but check with them to make sure.

Don't forget to check out the KW Technology booth to see what cool stuff KW has in store for the future...rumor has it there is a new "Agent Platform" that will be available to see! (Agent Platform = CRM!)
When the Sessions are out....
After the days events are over the city doesn't sleep.  Check out the hotels close to the convention to find out which hotel lobby or bar becomes "the one".  This happens every year, and it's nothing official - its organic and just happens.  This is where some of the greatest master-minding and connections happen, in an impromptu setting.  (Just don't get too crazy because the breakouts come early at 7:30 AM!)
Red Bash
Join Keller Williams associates for the biggest party of the year and listen to Gary Keller's band rock out.  Break out your best costumes and enjoy a night of games, music, dancing and fun! This will be a celebration you don’t want to miss.
Inspirational Morning
The best part of Family Reunion
Many people duck out early and don't hang around for the Inspirational Morning, but for those that do stay, they will tell you this is the most powerful and moving part.  I don't know how many people have told me this is their favorite part and that those who leave early don't know what they are missing!

Conclude your Family Reunion experience with this heartwarming session in which Mo Anderson and her special guests share stories of strength, perseverance and inspiration. Inspirational Morning is the most powerful display of Keller Williams culture and how it affects people around the world. Together, our associates share in this moving and uplifting presentation before returning home to their families and businesses.

NEW THIS YEAR- to include even more of our KW family in the Inspirational Morning experience and to do our part in reducing food waste, we will be offering a healthy grab and go breakfast followed by general admission theater seating for this session.

Family Reunion 2016 - Tech Takeaways

Meet your new Chief Innovation Officer

Josh Team is the new Chief Innovation Officer for KW, he is the former chief innovation officer for RAPP, one of the most well known direct marketing companies on the planet.  Business Insider recently named Josh one of the “30 Most Creative People In Advertising Under 30”, and he has worked with many Fortune 500 companies.
Picture
Josh brings many new ideas and concepts to KW to overhaul the client's experience.  "The experience of buying a home is broken" says Josh, "people have to answer a bunch of questions, which they don't know the answers to, just to see the homes".   When he took the position and was house shopping in Austin, he didn't know the zip codes, and by inputting one he limited out half of the homes available.  This was an experience he had first hand - and his goal is to complete overhaul the "experience" for clients, and disrupt the industry by giving an experience people can't find anywhere else.
Over and over in my breakout sessions I heard the presenters talk about the experience, the best experiences are "sticky" and they keep the clients engaged and keep them coming back.  Josh talked about his loyalty to a particular bank, not because he liked his bank at all, but they had a great experience with their mobile and online tools.  Another presenter talked about her loyalty to a particular airline because their mobile app was powerful and had everything she needed in an simple and easy to use interface - even though she actually hated that airline in all other aspects.

With Josh's leadership, I feel the next 12-18 months will bring many new things in terms of technology for agents, all to better the client's experience.

Websites

Several months ago Keller Williams announced their new partnership with Placester and plans of releasing new websites for all agents and market centers.  The responsive websites will automatically adjust to a users screen or device to ensure they have the best experience.
Picture
Well those websites are almost here, they will begin to launch in mid-March and will be fully launched by the end of May.  Once the new websites launch we will be offering training classes and workshops to help you get your new site up and running so watch for updates soon!

Picture

eEdge

The announcement everyone has been waiting for...Keller Williams has announced a complete overhaul of eEdge.  By the end of 2016 they will be beta testing the “next evolution” of the eEdge platform.
The way Josh Team explains it, KW will be using the tools Placester already has as the "core plumbing" and building something bigger and better than both Placester and eEdge combined.  Team says “Right now, portal sites and most data aggregators don’t know about transactions until, at the very best, 30 days after the transaction occurred, and they have very little coverage,” noted Team “One of the opportunities we have, by having so many agents doing so much volume and growing — we have data before the house has even closed. By connecting that data and leveraging that power, we can provide very meaningful data sets well before anyone else is aware of those trends and turn them into insights that will help our agents give more insights to buyers and sellers in real time.”

Josh has also committed to making the tools universal, that is “The single agent in Idaho needs a different tool kit than the mega agent team in Manhattan,” he noted. “They need a different set of tools, they need to talk to their consumers differently, and one of the things we’re excited about this new platform is agents will get to ‘a la carte’ their own solution and it won’t be. You can pick your solution using a central infrastructure and it will all be connected on the same data model.”

KW Mobile App

Your KW Mobile App will be getting a refresh in the next few days with an updated layout and enhanced photos.  The new layout will put the most used buttons on the main screen.
Picture
Picture
The less frequently used buttons will be moving to the additional screen which will also create a better user experience.  The photos have also been improved upon, with larger photos when browsing and a more modern look. You can also encourage  your clients to access the HomeKeepr section of the app and create a profile.  This will allow you to share your vendors with your clients and even send push notifications if you choose.

Picture

Zillow Partnership

At Family Reunion 2016 Keller Williams announced they have partnered with Zillow to provide agents an exclusive spot on their listings on Zillow and Trulia.

KW agent's profile picture and contact info will be displayed to the right of the address on their own listings.  For now this requires you set up your free Zillow profile, upload your photo and fill out your information.

Below your info there will still be a forum a person can fill out to submit their info to a "Premier Agent" or one who has purchased the zip code of the property.
The KW treatment will hold true on the mobile versions of Zillow & Trulia as well.  This will be a couple of weeks yet until this fully rolls out, but the desktop treatment is in effect now.

On the mobile version a KW agent's listing, the Contact Agent button will open up a screen with the listing agent featured at the top, however the same Premier Agent form will also be displayed.
Picture
This may not be the most ideal for you, but I can tell you that it is better than what every non-KW agent has on Zillow & Trulia - which is the profile photos & information of the four Premier Agents who have purchased the zip code.  Often you are hard pressed to even find yourself on your own listings...unless you are with KW that is!

KW Video

With KW Video you can create custom videos to send to your clients.  They range from listing videos, to tips throughout the home buying process, to holiday videos.  This is a great way to stay in touch with clients and potential clients.  You can use your own scripts or choose a pre-written video where the app acts as a teleprompter.
Don't want to be on camera?  Don't worry, there are plenty of videos where all you need to do is read the script - you aren't even on camera!  There are over 200 videos currently available and the number keeps growing.  And, because you know me you can get a $50 discount on your annual membership.  Just head over to www.kwvideo.com, check out the free videos, and then sign up using coupon code KWVJUNE1 and put my name in the Referrer box.

KWUConnect.com

Introducing www.kwuconnect.com, one centralized place for Educational Content, KWU Courses, Associate-Generated Content.  Here you can find all of the videos and contend you need, and you can even upload your own!  Share your videos and files with other agents to help us all learn more.  You can also find a new calendar here which will be more feature rich and powerful!  Check it out today.

Upstream

Project Upstream is in the works and under development.  This is something many agents are not familiar with, but it is lead by a board made up of representatives from all relate year estate brands and will really revolutionize the way listings are inputted.

Project Upstream will create one place where listings get inputted to and from there it will go to your MLS, KWLS and syndication sites.  This will really change things in the office and make the entire process easier for agents as well.  Watch for updates on Project Upstream throughout this year!
Picture

This was a phenomenal KW Family Reunion and I feel KW is already ahead of the industry in most of their technology.  As for the things in the pipeline, I am incredibly excited for the changes and growth in tech tools available to you.  This company will have impressive amount of powerful tools in your toolbox in the coming months.

The Paperless Open House

11/20/2015

Are you looking for that paperless open house solution?  Do you want a digital open house sign in?  How about a platform that will email your attendees the details about the property when the open is over?
Spacio can do all this and more - with an iPad app & a browser based page that will allow open house attendees to sign in on either an iPad or a laptop at your open.  The iPad app does not need internet access while at the open, but the browser page does
Picture
Spacio allows you to build a sign in page for each open house - you can choose the questions you would like to ask and upload a background photo.  Then when you are ready to begin, launch the open house and the sign in page will allow your attendees to sign in and it will automatically return to the sign in page so it is ready for the next guest.
When the open house is finished, Spacio will send an email to all of  your attendees with the property details and your contact information.  You can then view the attendee list and if you pay for an upgraded account you can export the list, or if you choose to use the free account you can copy their information manually.
Picture
Overall the Spacio Open House sign in looks great and functions smoothly.  If you have been looking for a digital solution to your open houses, give Spacio a try here.

Should I Upgrade to Windows 10?

7/29/2015

Picture
Windows 10 was released today as a free upgrade if you have Windows 7 or 8 and pre-registered.  The free upgrade will be available until the end of the year so there is no big rush to upgrade just yet.  I am currently upgrading my laptop as I write this blog post...but I have always been an early adopter of new technology.  So far Windows 10 is the smoothest upgrade to date from Microsoft, but there are still a number of things to consider before taking the plunge.

What's New in Windows 10?

Think of Windows 10 as a sort of a hybrid between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.  First off they brought back a Start Menu, it is just a new style from the one you were familiar with.  Also, there is a new virtual assistant named Cortana built in to the operating system, a new web browser called Edge and some new features if you have an Xbox One.

Should You Upgrade?

I think you should definitely upgrade and I know you want your Start button back, but I wouldn't necessarily be in a huge rush to do so today.  Windows 10 has the functionality and usability of Windows 7 with some pieces of Windows 8 integrated so it will work well with most of the programs and websites you use today.  However if you are still using that 10 year old version of Photoshop or Microsoft Office 2003 you may need to upgrade those programs as well.  Also, if you are using any old programs from the XP days, they will most likely not work with Windows 10.  So if you just can't let your beloved ancient computer programs go yet you better not upgrade until you feel comfortable putting those programs to rest.

How do you get the Upgrade?

You have to be running a legitimate copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to get the upgrade.  You also have to have your Windows Updates current.  Once you have your Windows totally up to date you should see the "Get Windows 10" app down by your clock in the lower right corner of your screen.  Click the Windows flag icon and reserve your free copy.  Microsoft is releasing Windows 10 in waves so you will be notified when your upgrade is available.  When it is just follow the prompts begin the process (oh, and allow up to 2 hours when you begin the upgrade!).

10 Best Waterproof iphone 6 cases

4/20/2015

Catalyst Waterproof Case ($70)

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better option than this case from Catalyst, if you need something that can genuinely handle a dunk. This case is waterproof at up to 5 meters depth and boasts an IP68 rating. It also meets military standards for drop tests, so you can use your iPhone 6 outdoors with confidence, if it’s wrapped in one of these. The Touch ID, buttons, and touchscreen all work with the case on, and the ports are accessible via plugs, but not every cable is going to fit.

Lunatik Aquatik Case ($100)

Picture
AVAILABLE HERE
The Lunatik Aquatik is one of the few, fully waterproof cases with a slim form factor, and a colorful design. This one is TouchID compatible and scores an IP68 rating, which means the case will, at minimum, protect your phone when submerged for up to 30 minutes in up to 3 feet of water. Lunatik has another, beefier case that’ll withstand higher impact falls, if it’s rugged protection you’re after.

Lifeproof Fre Case ($70)

One of the best waterproof iPhone 6 case manufacturers is Lifeproof (now owned by Otterbox), which has a reputation for delivering consistently dependable iPhone cases. The Fre has a scratch-resistant touchscreen cover and can also be submerged in up to 2 meters of water for up to an hour. For waterproof cases, Lifeproof is tough to beat on usability and style. You can pick this one up in a variety of different two-tone color combinations. It will also protect your iPhone 6 from snow, dirt, and drop damage.
Picture

Griffin Survivor All-Terrain ($22)

Picture
AVAILABLE HERE
This water-resistant case comes from a big name manufacturer you can trust. These cases meet military standard 810G, so drop damage up to 2 meters is not a problem. They also keep the rain out, as every angle of the phone is covered, but there’s no guarantee it will cope with submersion. It’s quite bulky, and the screen protector can impact screen sensitivity. Importantly, the Touch ID does work with the case on, there’s a slightly different material over it. It comes in plain black, or with pink or blue highlights. The iPhone 6 Plus version costs $10 more.

Dog & Bone Wetsuit Waterproof Case ($60)

You’ll enjoy peace of mind — even if your iPhone 6 is submerged — with this case. It has an IP68 rating and it can handle weather and dirt. It also improves grip, and gives you solid drop protection to military standards. Like a lot of rugged cases with all-round protection, there are some issues with this one. The Touch ID functionality isn’t perfect, and the protective frame on the front makes it difficult to do things like swipe up to open the Notification center. In case you’re wondering about the name, dog and bone is cockney rhyming slang for phone.
Picture
AVAILABLE HERE

Merit Waterproof Case ($36)

Picture
AVAILABLE HERE
Here’s another case that gets an IP68 rating. You can submerge it, take it out in dirty, or wet environments, and even drop it, without having to worry about about your iPhone 6 being damaged. You’ll also find that the design allows you to use your iPhone 6 with the case on. Everything is accessible, as it should be. This is an improved version of Merit’s original case, and the company promises that sound issues have been fixed. It also comes with a lanyard attachment and a headphone adapter. It’s surprisingly cheap too.

Acewin Waterproof Case ($36)

This is another waterproof option that won’t break the bank, but will keep your iPhone 6 dry. It has an IP68 rating, so it can handle submersion, and bad weather will not be a problem. This is also a relatively slim case, the trade-off is reduced drop protection compared to some of the others, though the manufacturer claims that it passes military drop test standard 810G-516.6. It comes in two pieces, so it’s easy to fit, and you’ll find your iPhone 6 is perfectly usable with the case.
Picture

JOTO Waterproof Bag ($10)

Picture
AVAILABLE HERE
If you already have a case for everyday wear and you just want a waterproof solution for days at the beach or out on a lake, then you could just opt for a bag like this and avoid spending a lot. It will fit a wide variety of devices including the iPhone 6. You can see the phone and even use it through the clear windowed sides. The snap lock at the top keeps it completely safe from the elements, and there’s a strap to make it easy to carry or hang round your neck.

Seidio Obex Waterproof Case ($75)

This is a bulky case with a holster attachment, which could be ideal for anyone who works outdoors. It meets 810F military drop test standards, so it offers rugged protection. It also has an IP68 rating, which means it can handle splashes and submersion. The problem with this case is that it impacts on sound quality. It also makes the iPhone harder to use, though, sadly, that’s something you can say about most protective cases.
Picture

New Trent Trentium Case for iPhone 6 ($20)

Picture
AVAILABLE HERE
This water-resistant case could work for you, if you don’t need a completely waterproof case, but you’d like something that’ll shed water and not look like a brick. There are rubber bumper seals for the ports to keep debris and moisture out, but we wouldn’t advise testing it in anything more than light rain. The case includes replaceable rear panels in silver, gold, and “gun metal.” It’s also cheap.

Do you ever click a link to an email address and get frustrated when Outlook or Apple Mail pops up, rather than Gmail? Google Chrome makes it stunningly easy to make your Gmail account the default when clicking linked email addresses. Switching is easy and you don’t even have to go into your Chrome settings.

Built right into the URL bar, adding Gmail as your default mail client is a simple setting that can greatly improve your web browsing experience. No need for extensions or editing your protocol settings, you can make the switch in just three clicks!
